So does having a Ph.D. confer the label “intellectual” on you? I both like and dislike the term, but I thought that if I sign up for this one, it would increase the likelihood that I’d meet another academic. No guarantee of compatibility beyond that, of course, but it’s a significant place to start. After that, I’d move to things like this: I’m slim, curvy, blond, divorced, and youthful with lots of adventures still on my agenda. I have a great job and would describe myself as a politically left, emotionally stable, a little unconventional, sophisticated, community-minded, dancer, gardener, empty-nester, academic. A bit intense preferring one-on-one to parties. I’m smart (but not arrogant), a small-time political activist, sensitive, independent, passionate about all that I do and I mean ALL. Love simple things, too: animals, plants, kids, music, dance, good art, theatre, thunder storms, the smell of the forest. I would love to find someone who shares these particular delights, and others. Then I’d end with something like this: Perhaps you are as unique as I am. I’d love someone with whom I could hike or boat, play a game of snooker, dance tango or salsa, enjoy the garden, or travel near and far. There are so many possibilities, but to make this happen, you should be relatively unburdened by family responsibilities, and have sufficient resources to be able to enjoy life. You’re interesting, compassionate (and passionate), stable, and sincere, not averse to a long-distance relationship or willing to relocate to a very pretty but small city surrounded by lakes, close to the US border, with all the culture that the big city has (but only one of each kind!). Cost of living is relatively low, quality of life is high. If you’re open to a change, love and companionship could be your reward. A grad degree is a plus. Jewish, too. But you can’t have everything, so I’m certainly willing to make compromises.
